OVERVIEW

This 3D animation uses a range of advanced techniques to create a detailed character dancing in an infinite loop. Hair simulations, motion capture data and three-point lighting are all used to create a photo-real animation style.

It's a simple scene and was used to improve my staging and simulation skills. Once the scene was framed, I mapped motion capture data to the character rig to get it moving. I had to combine a few different dances from different motion capture data to create the final dance routine. This was done to make sure the animation looped.

The hair simulation was probably the trickiest part. Being intensive to render, it took quite a lot of trial and error to create a result I was happy with. It needed enough coverage to hide the character model beneath and enough bounce/length to have a wavy fluid motion as it moves.

Overall, I am happy with the final animation and how the hair interacts with the character and environment.

This was my first serious attempt at simulating realistic hair. It collides with the floor to prevent clipping of the hair. There are kinks, waves, and varying lengths to create a more photo-realistic character and aesthetically pleasing motion.
