Project Overview

Explorr is a centralised travel planning application designed to bring order to the chaos of booking and managing trips. It allows users to organize accommodations, map out daily itineraries, store essential travel documents, and securely share their plans with friends and family. Enhanced by AI, Explorr acts as a pocket tour guide, turning complex travel logistics into a seamless, accessible dashboard.

The Problem

Planning a comprehensive, multi-city trip—such as coordinating ferries, hotels, and daily excursions across a two-week journey—often results in a messy trail of group chats, forwarded emails, and disjointed spreadsheets. Explorr was built to solve this fragmentation. It gives travellers a single source of truth where everyone in a group can see exactly what terminal a flight leaves from or what time an excursion starts, letting users spend less time managing logistics and more time enjoying their adventure.

Under the Hood

Built as a highly scalable web application, Explorr is engineered with a modern Next.js framework. To ensure travellers have access to their plans on the go, it is designed as a Progressive Web App (PWA), with native iOS/Android apps coming soon for a smoother, more integrated feel. Stripe is integrated securely to handle upcoming premium features and monetisation, without disrupting the core free experience.

• AI-Powered Itineraries: Integration with models like Gemini allows users to generate logical daily schedules. The AI factors in the user's accommodation and existing plans to suggest morning, afternoon, and evening activities optimised for distance and travel time.
• Collaborative Trip Sharing: Users can generate a simple view-only link for family to follow along, or invite friends as full 'members' to collaboratively edit and build out the itinerary.
• Centralised Travel Hub: Consolidates everything from flight times to hotel bookings in one place. And by connecting with APIs like Google Maps, essential accurate information is readily accessible.
• Interactive Visual Mapping: Beautiful, interactive maps allow users to visualise their routes and stops, whether they are traveling by plane, boat, bus, or bike.
• The "Digital Passport": A gamified feature that automatically collects 'stamps' and achievements for every trip completed, allowing users to look back on the countries they've visited and share their travel milestones.
• Privacy & Security First: Built with secure, industry-standard protocols that ensure personal travel data is never unnecessarily tracked or traced back to the individual.
